Introduction to
Mindfulness and Wellbeing
an 8 week program
This 8-week program offers you a positive space to increase your knowledge and practice of mindfulness and how it can have a positive impact on well-being.

What is Mindfulness

The word "mindfulness" Sampaja ññ a in Pali - means clear comprehension. Mindfulness helps us to see clearly so we can make wise choices and respond to life effectively. (Shapiro 2020)

Mindfulness is about paying attention, when we pay attention we increase our awareness and can fully experience whatever we're engaged in, without distraction.

A lot of the time our mind can make us unhappy; going round in circles, over thinking, worrying and being self-critical means, we get stuck in a negative cycle that can spiral into stress, anxiety and depression.

Mindfulness is being present in the moment, being aware and experiencing each minute of life as it is and what we mean by that for example is going for a walk and being distracted by our phones or negative self-talk, when this happens we don't notice the beauty around us, the trees, birds, or the ground we're walking on. We can't stop negative self-talk but, we can choose how to respond.

Mindfulness offers a space to reset ourselves by stepping out of "doing" into "being" - enabling us to make wiser choices, be happier and more productive. Much like refilling a car with fuel without fuel the car won't run and our body and mind also, need to refresh and recharge because continually running on autopilot can have consequences such as burnout, stress, fatigue, anxiety and unhappiness.
